Life With My Toddler:
I have a 18 mo son.. And the day i think he is at his naughtiest best he never fails to surprise me!! :) The moment i make our house tidy he make sure he will mess around.. His idea of fun is in unfolding the laundry i just fold..pulling out the vessels i just cleaned and the list goes on and on and on.. Initially i was sooooo irritated that i used to scold him a lot... but he never changed.. ;) It was then i came through this article wrote by a fellow toddler mom.. Ok so let me tell how that inspired me..
If you have a toddler in your home, instead of stressing out about how messy your home is and blah blah, you should enjoy what your kid does and encourage him to explore and finding new things.. Ok so what if your house is a little messy? Its fine.. Relax... Let me tell you, it made me and him feel a lot better... I started allowing him to involve in tiny chores i do and giving him responsibilities like picking up a vessel and handing over.. I was shocked to see the difference in his behavior.. Give them some importance and they will definitely pay you back.. Trust me.. They understand everything you tell them. So lesser the screaming at them more nicer they will be. Now if something falls down from his hand he make sure he picks that up and throws in dust bin..
They get irritated very fast. Just put yourself in their shoes and see.. Since they cannot communicate through talking, its a lot of pressure on them to get what they want.. Whenever my boy goes out of control, rather than screaming/ shouting back at him I try to make him relax by talking to him calmly. Consider and treat him like any other sensible human being. You will notice the change for sure :)
Ok so here are some tips that i follow to keep our home (somewhat;)) clean:
1. Keeping a toy basket in the living room. That way you can organize the spread out toys faster when an unexpected guest arrives!! (all the time :( )
2. Toddlers tend to get bored of their toys pretty fast. So instead of putting all the toys together, alternate the toys every week.. That way you don't have your living room stuffed with toys and your toddler will love variety too :D
3. Toddlers love kitchen stuffs more than their toys. ;) Allot a shelf for them in the kitchen. Ok so my toddler will never be interested in doing things i allow him to.. duh! :P So as always when he tries to open the cabinet i tell him NOOOOO... TADA.. he will now explore for sure and have fun ;)
